Kelly Shires Foundation...

History

TraX4 Breast Cancer is the newest chapter to raise funds in support of the Kelly Shires Breast Cancer Foundation.  On the 30th April 2010, we launched our inaugural event in Parry Sound with the support of the 10th annual Can-Am SpringJam.  Over 250 ATV participants took part in the SpringJam with 150 riders choosing to “ride to make a difference” by raising funds and wearing our pink bracelets!!    This year we are working hard in our partnership to provide an enjoyable event for all while raising the necessary money so the foundation can continue to assist as many breast cancer patients as possible!  Anyone who participates in this event should be proud of being part of something so unique and so rewarding.

About the Charity

The Kelly Shires Breast Cancer Foundation’s mission is “to provide financial assistance to those across Canada who have been diagnosed with breast cancer” www.kellyshiresfoundation.org

When facing a breast cancer diagnosis, many patients are at a loss, not only us their world turned upside down and their health / life at risk, but many also experience financial concerns that may never have existed before and may not be covered by private or Provincial Health Care.   Loss of income, medicines, transportation cost, all of these can manifest especially those self employed or stay at home types.  Government assistance is also not available to many, especially in the early stages of cancer. While there are many other organizations raising money for breast cancer, the majority of that money raised goes towards research.  This is where the Kelly Shires Foundation is different in that ALL money raised goes directly to Breast Cancer Patients, not research – DIRECTLY TO THOSE WHO NEED IT NOW!!!

Through personal experience, the charity realized that battling for your life is a very tough challenge with physical, emotional, mental and financial battles to overcome.  In realizing this we decided we wanted to help as many people as possible diagnosed with breast cancer in their fight. The money raised is put into a trust, and people make formal applications with their financial requests.  Every week the foundation receives 7 to 10 applications for assistance and the need for this type of assistance is increasing rapidly.

The Kelly Shires Foundation has been primary supported by funds raised through the Snow Run -www.breastcancersnowrun.org, a snow mobile event whose Ontario & Quebec chapters have over the past 11 years helped to raise over $2,600,000.  In April 2010, a new chapter TraX4 breast cancer, an ATV event was launched in Ontario as the increase in demand for assistance is quickly resulting in a shortage of funds.
